My experiences with site plan projects are mainly at Deak Planning + Design. While working at Deak Planning + Design, I began working more on site landscape and design projects and less on large and medium scale planning projects like I’d completed at The Lannert Group and at Greey Pickett Planning and Landscape Design. Another important part of what we did at Deak Planning + Design was to use new technology to separate our projects. These projects utilized both Google Sketchup and rendering on a table PC.
Examples:
Michigan Bell Building Redevelopment
The Neighborhood Service Organization (NSO) supplies housing support for the homeless in Detroit, Michigan. The NSO gained the rights to the old Michigan Bell building in Highland Park, Michigan and plans to develop it into their office space, as well as housing apartments for the homeless. The redevelopment is planned to be LEED certified and Deak Planning + Design was brought on board with Kenneth Weikal Landscape Architecture to develop green roofs, plaza space, and the site design. Originally, the SketchUp model was created to study shadow patterns for green roof feasibility. Subsequently, the model was refined and became a working document for site design and development of the roof area, which was planned to be used as space for fund-raising galas.
Cambria of Lyon
Cambria of Lyon is an elder housing development in South Lyon, Michigan. While working at Deak Planning + Design I did the landscape plan for the development following the landscape ordinance for the City of South Lyon. Following the creation of the landscape plan, we did a site rendering for presentations. This rendering was done using a tablet PC.
